Rx. Bupleuri Chai Hu 6-24g Resolves Shao Yang disorders and reduces fever (harmonizes the Exterior and Interior).
With Huang Qin clears Liver and Gallbladder Heat.
With Zhi Shi, strongly moves Qi.
With Huang Qin and Zhi Ban Xia, for Shao Yang disorders with alternating chills and fever and a sensation of fullness in the hypochondria and chest.
With Bai Shao, for Liver Blood Deficiency with Liver Qi Stagnation and vertigo, dizziness, thoracic and costal pain, and menstrual irregularity due to Liver Qi Stagnation.
Rx. Scutellariae Huang Qin 3-12g Clears Heat, dries Dampness, drains Fire, detoxifies, cools the Blood, stops bleeding and calms ascending Liver Yang.
With Bai Shao, for dysenteric disorders with abdominal pain due to Heat entering the Interior.
With Da Huang, for constipation.
Fr. Aurantii Immaturus Zhi Shi 1-9g Strongly moves Qi, breaks up Qi Stagnation and reduces distension and fullness in the chest and abdomen.
With Da Huang, drains Heat retained in the interior, constipation and abdominal swelling due to Food Stagnation and Qi Stag-nation and diarrhea, dysentery, and abdominal pain due to Damp-Heat.
With Da Huang and Huang Qin, for dysenteric diarrhea with tenesmus due to Damp-Heat, especially due to Food Stagnation transforming into Damp-Heat.
With Chai Hu, Huang Qin and Zhi Ban Xia, for cholecystitis.
Rx. et Rz. Rhei Da Huang 1-9g Drains Stomach and Gallbladder Heat through the stool, transforms Blood Stasis, and facilitates the flow of bile.
Rx. Paeoniae Alba Bai Shao 3-9g Nourishes the Blood, softens the Liver and treats abdominal pain and distension.
With Zhi Shi and Da Huang, treats pain in the abdomen due to Excess.
With Chai Hu, for flank pain due to Liver Qi Stagnation.
Rz. Pinelliae Preparatum Zhi Ban Xia 3-24g Harmonizes the Middle Jiao and descends rebellious Stomach Qi.
With Sheng Jiang, stops vomiting.
Rz. Zingiberis Recens Sheng Jiang 4-15g Warms the Middle, stops vomiting, reduces the toxicity of other herbs and seafood and adjusts the Ying and Wei.
With Da Zao, alleviates epigastric pain, nausea, and vomiting by strengthening the Spleen, protects Stomach Qi and reduces irritation of the gastrointestinal tract by other herbs.
Fr. Jujube Da Zao 3-12pc Helps Bai Shao soften the Liver, reduces abdominal spasms, protects the Yin from injury by pathogenic Heat and protects against the harsh properties of Da Huang and Zhi Shi.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
  • Contraindicated for those with Spleen and Stomach Deficiencies.
HERB/DRUG INTERACTIONS
  • This formula shows a notable effect to treat aspirin-and ethanol- induced gastric hemorrhage. Its protective effect is comparable to sucralfate (Carafate), cimetidine (Tagamet) and 16, 16-dimethyl-prostaglandin E2 (DMPGE2)
