Welcome to American Dragon

We are sorry to report that Dr. Penner, passed away on January 6th, 2020.

Dr. Penner was dedicated to his patients and derived much satisfaction from helping to heal people. We are sorry he can no longer provide that service, but hope that the information provided on this website can continue to serve the community. The American Dragon website was his passion, and, over the years, has become a great reference for both patients and professionals.

Joel was also an accomplished jazz trumpeter, with two CDs ‘Dragon Jazz’ and ‘Church of the Little Black Dog.’ He performed with such varied artists as Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Glen Campbell, and Florence Henderson, as well as working in and around Los Angeles with his Jazz sextet.

My name is Shoshana – I am Dr. Joel Penner’s daughter and I have received so many messages from those of you who have used and appreciated my father’s website and work. Your caring, heartfelt messages have shown so much about him that I never knew about him before. It is uplifting to know how important his life’s work has been to so many people. I hope to someday respond individually to each message, but until then, I thank you.

My father was happy to provide his work to the community for free, and he defrayed costs through his business. While there is no more income from his business, I still have every hope of keeping this site up and running. Many of you have graciously expressed interest in helping with this. There are definitely costs to hosting this site, so if you are called to do so, we would welcome donations to help with hosting & maintenance expenses. Please consider making a recurring or one-time donation using the ‘Donate’ button below.

Thank you for your support. If you have questions, or ideas, please use this link to contact us.

Thank you, Shoshana Bianchi-McElwee

Joel Penner, O.M.D.

The Dragon

The dragon has been a symbol in many cultures around the globe for thousands of years, but is most popular in China. To the Chinese, dragons are associated with the power of transformation; the search for wisdom, happiness and immortality. They symbolize balanced growth in spirit and are bringers of eternal change.
