Cornu Rhinoceri Xi Jiao 0.5-3g Clears Heat from the Ying and Xue stages, relieves Fire toxicity, cools the Blood, clears skin blotches, stops bleeding Clears Heat and extinguishes Liver Wind. This is an endangered species, do not use.
With Ling Yang Jiao, for high fever, delirium, and convulsions due to warm febrile diseases.
(Cornu Bubali) (Shui Niu Jiao) (4-20g) (Clears Heat from the Ying and Xue stages, relieves Fire toxicity, cools the Blood, stops bleeding, clears Heat and arrests tremors. Substitutes for Xi Jiao.)
(With Ling Yang Jiao, for high fever, delirium, and convulsions due to warm febrile diseases.)
Cornu Saigae Tataricae Ling Yang Jiao 0.3-0.5g Drains Liver Heat, calms the Liver, extinguishes Wind, controls spasms and convulsions, anchors Yang, drains Heat, clears Fire toxicity and clears Damp-Heat.
(Carapax Trionycis) (Bie Jia) (9-30g) (Nourishes Yin and anchors Yang. Substitutes for Ling Yang Jiao.)
Rx. Scutellariae Huang Qin 3-18g Clears Heat, dries Dampness, drains Fire, detoxifies and calms ascending Liver Yang.
With Zhi Zi, powerfully clears and drains lurking Heat from the Lungs with fever, fullness in the chest, cough with yellow sputum and epistaxis or hematemesis.
With Da Huang , for constipation.
Fr. Gardeniae Zhi Zi 3-12g Clears Heat, reduces Fire, eliminates irritability and drains Damp-Heat.
With Dan Dou Chi, for insomnia and irritability from Deficiency due to Heat lingering in the chest.
With Da Huang, for constipation.
Rx. Peucedani Qian Hu 3-10g Expels Phlegm, descends Qi and expels Wind-Heat.
Rz. Cimicifugae Sheng Ma 1.5-9g Clears Heat and relieves toxicity.
Rx. et Rz. Rhei Da Huang 3-15g Drains Heat, purges accumulations, drains Fire, clears Heat, transforms Dampness, promotes urination, invigorates the Blood and dispels Blood Stasis.
Rz. Belamcandae She Gan 1.5-10g Clears Heat and relieves Fire toxicity.
With Huang Qin, for sore throat and cough due to Lung Heat.
Sm. Sojae Preparatum Dan Dou Chi 6-18g Releases the Exterior, eliminates irritability, harmonizes the Middle Jiao and relieves stuffy sensations in the chest.
