Hematuria and hematochezia due to Deficiency.

 

 

  1. This herb is both an astringent and breaks up Blood Stagnation and therefore stops bleeding without causing Stagnation.
  2. It is usually used for Lung and Stomach Heat bleeding.
  3. This herb is not very strong and usually plays an adjunctive role.
  4. The fresh juice may be used to treat hematemesis
  5. For epistaxis, instill the fresh juice into the nostrils.
  6. Both Ou Jie and Petiolus Trachycarpi Zong Lu Pi astringe bleeding. Ou Jie is sweet and astringent and both stops bleeding and reduces Blood Stasis and when fresh, cools Blood Heat. Zong Lu Pi is bitter and astringent and is more strongly binding and restraining than Ou Jie. It is used primarily for bleeding that is not associated with Blood Stasis. It also dries Dampness and therefore is appropriate for treating vaginal discharge.
  7. Fresh Lotus Nodes Xian Ou Jie are cooling and thus best for bleeding due to Blood Heat. It is often used singly as a fresh juice to treat epistaxis and hemoptysis.
  8. Charred Lotus Nodes Ou Jie Tan are better for stopping bleeding, but less able to dispel Stasis. It is slightly warming and can be used to treat bleeding in Yang Deficiency patients.
