POINT: GB-31 (GALL BLADDER-31)

  • At the median line on the lateral aspect of the thigh, 7 cun above the kneecap, or directly below the tip of the middle finger when the arm is extended at the side of the leg.
  • On the lateral aspect of the thigh, directly below the greater trochanter, 7 cun superior to the popliteal crease.
  • This point can be located at the tender point approximately 1 cun above the junction of the upper two-thirds and lower third of the line drawn between the greater trochanter and popliteal crease.
  • Straight insertion 1.5 to 2.5 cun, causing local distention and soreness possibly extending downward.
  • Perpendicular or slightly oblique insertion posteriorly 1 to 2 cun.
  • Oblique insertion, directed proximally or distally 1.5 to 2.5 cun.
  • Puncture perpendicularly 0.7 to 1.2 cun.
  • Moxibustion is applicable.
