POINT: ST-33 (STOMACH-33)

  • Located 3 cun above the superior lateral margin of the patella, between the rectus femorus and vastus lateralis muscles.
  • On the thigh, on a line drawn between the lateral border of the patella and the anterior superior iliac spine, in a depression 3 cun proximal to the superior border of the patella.
    Note: locate one hand breadth superior to the patella or midway between ST-32 Futu and the patella.
  • When the knee is flexed, the point is 3 cun above the laterosuperior border of the patella, on the line joining the laterosuperior border of the patella and the anterior superior iliac spine.
  • Straight insertion, 1 to 3 cun.
  • Perpendicular or oblique insertion 1 to 1.5 cun.
  • Puncture perpendicularly 0.7 to 1 cun.
  • Moxibustion is applicable.
