POINT: GB-24 (GALL BLADDER-24)

  • Directly below the nipple, in the seventh intercostal space, 4 cun lateral to the anterior midline.
  • Located on the mammilary line in the seventh intercostal space.
  • One rib below LIV-14 Qimen, in the seventh intercostal space.
    Note: First locate the second intercostal space, just below the sternal angle, then locate the seventh intercostal space, five spaces below that. In males the nipple lies in the fourth intercostal space.
  • Puncture obliquely 0.3 to 0.5 cun.
  • Moxibustion is applicable.
  • Slanted insertion, 0.5 to 1 cun.
  • Transverse-oblique insertion along the intercostal space 0.5 to 1 cun.
  • Caution: deep or perpendicular insertion may cause a pneumothorax.
