  1. This herb is primarily used for low back and lower extremity pain.
  2. It governs stiffness in the upper and lower back.
  3. It greatly benefits the elderly.
  4. Both Gou Ji and HB. Epimedii Yin Yang Huo enter the Liver and Kidney channels to strengthen tendons and bones and expel Wind-Damp Bi. Gou Ji more powerfully expels Wind-Damp and strengthens tendons and bones while Yin Yang Huo more powerfully tonifies the Ming Men and treats impotence.
  5. Gou Ji, Rx. Morindae Officinalis Ba Ji Tian and Cx. Eucommiae Du Zhong all tonify the Liver and Kidneys to strengthen tendons and expel Wind-Dampness. Du Zhong warms the Qi Level of the Liver and Kidneys without being overly drying and is noted for its ability to quiet the fetus. It is best at treating low back and knee pain due to Liver and Kidney Deficiencies. Ba Ji Tian is soft, moist and warm. It is best at treating low back and knee pain due to Wind-Dampness associated with Kidney Yang Deficiency, infertility, irregular menstruation and abdominal pain due to Cold in the Womb. Gou Ji combines the actions of the other two. It tonifies the Liver and Kidneys, and expels pathogenic Wind, Cold and Dampness. It is stronger at expelling than tonifying and can treat low back and knee pain due to Wind, Cold or Dampness, or pain due to Liver and Kidney Deficiencies.
  6. Both Gou Ji and Rz. Drynariae Gu Sui Bu tonify the Liver and Kidney sand strengthen the tendons and bones to treat soreness and pain in the lower back and knees and weakness in the sinews and bones due to Liver and Kidney Deficiency. Gou Ji is sweet and warm with a stronger ability to tonify the bones and spine and expel Wind-Dampness.
  7.  Gu Sui Bu is bitter and warm with a stronger ability to invigorate Blood and stop pain. It can also direct downward to  treat tinnitus and toothache due to floating Yang.
  8. Processed Cibotum Zhi Gou Ji is less bitter and drying and a better ability to augment Qi and Blood. it tonifies Liver and Kidneys, strengthens sinews and bones and facilitates the movement of joints and is appropriate for lower back, knee and leg weakness due to Liver and Kidney Deficiencies.
  9. Dry-fried Cibotum Chao Gou Ji is stronger at dispelling Wind and dampness.
