Poria Fu Ling 3g Promotes urination and leaches out Dampness.
Rx. Platycodi Jie Geng 3g Opens the Lungs, spreads Lung Qi, expels Phlegm, benefits the throat and directs the effects of other herbs to the upper body.
With Gan Cao, disseminates Lung Qi, expels Phlegm, resolves toxicity, and expels pus for productive cough due to Wind-Heat.
With Gan Cao and Huang Qin, for hoarseness, pain and swelling of the throat due to Wind-Heat
Fr. Schisandrae Wu Wei Zi 2g Astringes leakage of Lung Qi, stops cough, tonifies the Kidneys, astringes Jing and sweat and generates fluids.
Per. Citri Reticulatae Chen Pi 3g Regulates and descends Qi, adjusts the Middle, relieves the diaphragm, dries Dampness and transforms Phlegm.
Rx. Angelicae Sinensis Dang Gui 3g Tonifies, invigorates and harmonizes the Blood, stops cough and treats dyspnea.
Rx. Asparagi Tian Men Dong 2g Nourishes the Kidney Yin, clears Lung Heat, sedates Fire, moistens the Lungs, nourishes the Kidneys, generates fluids and resolves Phlegm.
Rx. Ophiopogonis Mai Men Dong 2g Moistens the Lungs, nourishes Yin, stops cough and moistens the Intestines.
With Tian Men Dong, for Lung and Kidney Yin Deficiency with consumptive cough and occasional hemoptysis.
Fr. Gardeniae Zhi Zi 2g Clears Heat, reduces Fire, eliminates irritability, cools the Blood and relieves toxicity.
Rx. Scutellariae Huang Qin 5g Clears Heat, dries Dampness, drains Fire, detoxifies and calms ascending Liver Yang.
Cx. Mori Sang Bai Pi 5g Drains Heat from the Lungs, stops cough, calms wheezing and promotes urination.
With Huang Qin, drains Heat from the Lungs, and stops cough and wheezing.
Bul. Fritillariae Thunbergii Zhe Bei Mu 3g Clears Heat, transforms Phlegm and stops cough.
Sm. Armeniacae Xing Ren 2g Stops cough, calms wheezing, moistens the Intestines and unblocks bowels.
With Mai Men dong, for dry cough due to Dryness and Heat injuring the Lungs.
Caul. Bambusae in Taeniam) (Zhu Ru)` (2g) (Clears Heat and transforms Hot Phlegm - May substitute for Xing Ren.)
Rx. Glycyrrhizae Gan Cao 1g Moistens the Lungs, resolves Phlegm, stops cough, clears Heat, relieves Fire toxicity and moderates and harmonizes the harsh properties of other herbs.
With Jie Geng, for pain and swelling of the throat.
Fr. Jujube Da Zao 3g Moderates and harmonizes the harsh properties of other herbs.
Rz. Zingiberis Recens Sheng Jiang 0.5g Warms the Lungs, stops cough and reduces the toxicity of other herbs.
With Da Zao, prevents Phlegm accumulation.

  • Contraindicated for those with Exterior disorders.
  • Use with caution or modify for those with Spleen Deficiency.
  • Use with caution or modify for those with Food Stagnation.

  • This formula is very effective in treating Lung Heat and chronic cough with profuse sputum.

For a dry cough: For cough with afternoon fever:
