- This herb is very effective at stopping vomiting and can be used with other herbs for other types of vomiting including morning sickness.
- This herb is used whenever Hot Phlegm causes restlessness and agitation.
- It treats, coughing, asthma, restlessness, uneasiness.
- It also treats Gallbladder Heat from nuts and dairy products.
- It is good for an overworked feeling with difficulty making decisions.
- There is some disparity regarding the use of this herb and Succus Bambusae Zhu Li, derived from the sap of the same plant. Their effects are similar and Zhu Ru is used in most instances, however, the sap Zhu Li, is colder and more Phlegm dissolving, while Zhu Ru is more Fire-purging and anti-emetic.
- This herb cools Lung heat and is valuable for calming the Spirit and releasing constraint.
- It is also said to unblock and facilitate the flow of urine. It cools Heat in the Intestines and eliminates tenesmus and abdominal pain from dysenteric disorders.
- Its cooling and unblocking actions treat swelling and pain due to trauma and Blood Stasis.
- Boiling it in vinegar and rinsing the mouth with it can stop bleeding gums.
- Both Zhu Ru and Rz. Pinelliae Preparatum Zhi Ban Xia alleviate nausea, calm the Spirit, and are often combined to enhance these qualities. Zhu Ru is moistening and cooling and is biased toward the treatment of Phlegm-Heat and nausea from Stomach Heat. It also relieves constraint and disperses clumped Phlegm-Heat affecting the Gallbladder. Zhi Ban Xia is acrid, warm, drying and is biased toward treating Cold-Phlegm, Damp-Phlegm, and thin mucus affecting the Spleen, Stomach and epigastrium.
- Fresh Bamboo Shavings Xian Zhu Ru ix very cold, strongly clears Heat, transforms Phlegm and eliminates irritability. It is used for Phlegm and Heat disturbing the Spirit and causing restless irritability. It also treats Lung Heat cough with sticky yellow Phlegm
- Dry-fired Bamboo Shavings Chao Zhu Ru is less cold and is appropriate for treating reflux and rebellious Qi from Stomach Deficiency.
- Ginger Bamboo Shavings Jiang Zhu Ru is slightly warm and is stronger at descending rebellious Qi and relieving nausea. It is used to treat nausea and reflux due to either Stomach Cold or Stomach Heat.
