Liver Fire

  1. The flower of this plant is better at stopping bleeding, but the fruit is better at draining Heat and descending Fire.
  2. It is best for bleeding an inflamed stools and hemafecia.
  3. It is also said to nourish Liver Yin, moisten the Liver and nourish the Blood.
  4. The seed kernels within the fruit govern brightening the eyes.
  5. Long-term consumption of this herb will prevent the beard from turning white, brightens the eyes and frees the spirit.
  6. It is also said to nourish the Kidneys.
  7. Both Huai Jiao and Flos Sophorae Immaturus Huai Hua Mi  cool the Blood and stop bleeding, however Huai Hua Mi is lighter which enables it to travel upward. It moistens Clears Heat and moistens the Liver to relieve redness and Heat from the eyes as a result of Liver Fire. Huai Jiao sinks directly downward and has the same effect as Huai Hua Mi, but also Invigorates the Blood.
  8. Dry-fried Sophora Fruits Chao Huai Jiao is less Cold and is more appropriate for those with Spleen Deficiency.
  9. Honied Sophora Fruits Mi Huai Jiao is better able to nourish the Liver and moisten Dryness, while moderating its Cold nature. It is used for Spleen and Stomach Deficiency, Liver Dryness and constipation due to clumping of Internal Fire.
  10. Charred Sophora Fruits Huai Jiao Tan is much less Cold and is better at stopping bleeding.
