POINT: UB-22 (URINARY BLADDER-22)  

English: San Jiao Shu
Also Known As: Triple Burner's Hollow
  • 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the first lumbar vertebra.
    Note: locate at the visible highest point of the paraspinal muscles.
  • 1.5 cun lateral to DU-5 Xuanshu, at the level of the lower border of the spinous process of the first lumbar vertebra.
  • Oblique or perpendicular-oblique insertion towards the spine, 1 to 1.5 cun.
  • Caution: deep perpendicular needling carries the risk of injuring the Kidney.
  • Straight insertion 1 to 1.5 cun. Sensation: distention and soreness as far as the waist.
  • Puncture perpendicularly 0.5 to 1 cun.
  • Moxibustion is applicable.
