Rx. Astragali | Huang Qi | 6-15g | Tonifies Wei Qi, stabilizes the Exterior, aids circulation of moisture downward from the face, promotes urination and reduces edema. With Han Fang Ji, for Wind edema with numbness, pain, swelling of the face and extremities, sweating, sensitivity to Wind, and reduced urination. With Han Fang Ji, Gui Zhi and Fu Ling, for superficial floating edema with swelling of the extremities. |
Ram. Cinnamomi | Gui Zhi | 6-9g | Releases the Exterior, assists Yang, warms and facilitates the flow of Qi through the channels and collaterals and Blood through the vessels, warms the Middle and directs Turbid Yin downward. With Han Fang Ji, for Wind-Cold Damp Bi. With Fu Ling, unblocks Yang and facilitates the removal of congested fluids associated with Yang Deficiency edema. |
Poria | Fu Ling | 6-18g | Promotes urination, leaches out Dampness and strengthens the Spleen. With Gan Cao, for Spleen and Heart Deficiency causing facial edema, palpitations and shortness of breath. |
Rx. Glycyrrhizae | Gan Cao | 3-6g | Tonifies the Spleen, augments Qi, moderates and harmonizes the harsh properties of other herbs and guides the herbs to all twelve channels. |
