RAYNAUD'S DISEASE, RAYNAUD'S PHENOMENON

Clinical Manifestations
  • Raynaud's disease is a condition that causes some areas of the body — such as the fingers, toes, the tip of the nose and the ears — to feel numb and cool in response to cold temperatures or stress. In Raynaud's disease, smaller arteries that supply blood to the skin narrow, limiting blood circulation to affected areas.

Women are more likely to have Raynaud's disease. It's also more common in people who live in colder climates

  • Raynaud's phenomenon is a condition resulting in discoloration of the fingers and/or the toes after exposure to changes in temperature (cold or hot) or emotional events. Skin discoloration occurs because an abnormal spasm of the blood vessels causes a diminished blood supply to the local tissues.
