Infantile night crying.

  1. This herb is especially beneficial for insomnia or restless sleep due to Heart and Kidney not Communicating (it has a very good sedative effect).
  2. In ancient times, its stem pith was used as lamp wicks.
  3. Occasionally this herb is used for abdominal pain.
  4. This herb has properties that are similar to Caulis Akebiae Mu Tong and is often combined with it.
  5. It is often used for infants or children with restless sensations of Heat in the chest, nightmares, night terrors and dark, burning urine due to Heat.
  6. This herb can be dipped in oil and used for cauterization.
  7. Apply topically for throat inflammation.
  8. Both Deng Xin Cao and Caul. Akebiae Mu Tong clear and drain Heart Fire and direct Small Intestine Heat out through the urine. They are used together to treat Lin syndrome. Mu Tong is bitter, cold and more powerful than Deng Xin Cao. It treats mouth and tongue ulcers and swollen, red eyes. It also unblocks the flow of Qi and Blood to treat amenorrhea, insufficient lactation or painful obstruction. Deng Xin Cao is milder and its treatment of the Heart is primarily aimed at children's night terrors due to Heart Heat. It also drains Lung Heat to treat sore throat.
  9. Both Deng Xin Cao and Hb. Phylostachys Zhu Ye clear Heart Fire and promote diuresis. Deng Xin Cao is better for Lin syndrome with burning and painful urination, while Zhu Ye more effectively sedates Heart Fire to treat irritability and insomnia.
  10. Charred Juncus Pith Deng Xin Tan cools the Blood, stops bleeding, clears Heat and inhibits sores.
  11. Juncus Flower Deng Xin Hua is often used to treat dysuria from Lower Jiao Damp-Heat.
