Hb. Ephedrae Ma Huang 6-18g Releases the exterior, arrests wheezing, moves water by facilitating the flow of Lung Qi, calms wheezing, stops coughing and warms Cold.
With Xing Ren for cough and wheezing due to excess.
With Xing Ren and Shi Gao for Lung Heat.
With Gui Zhi, for Wind-Cold Excess conditions with fever and chills but no sweat.
Sm. Armeniacae Xing Ren 5-12g Stops cough calms wheezing, moistens the Intestines and unblocks the bowels.
With Ma Huang and Gan Cao, for cough with profuse sputum, nasal obstruction and a hoarse voice.
Ram. Cinnamomi Gui Zhi 1-12g Releases the exterior, assists the Yang, adjusts the Ying and Wei, releases the muscle layer, warms the channels and collaterals to relieve pain and warms and facilitates the flow of Qi through the channels and collaterals and Blood through the vessels.
With Ma Huang releases the exterior, and warms cold.
Gypsum Fibrosum Shi Gao 10-30g Clears Heat, drains Fire, clears Excess Heat from the the Lungs.
With Ma Huang, for cough from Heat Obstructing the Lungs with wheezing, flaring of the nostrils and fever and Wind-edema.
With Sheng Jiang, decreases muscular swelling.
with Ma Huang and Gui Zhi, for Wind-Cold with Interior Heat.
Rx. Glycyrrhizae Preparata Zhi Gan Cao 2-6g Augments Qi, moistens the Lungs, resolves Phlegm, stops cough, harmonizes the interaction of acrid and sour herbs and moderates and harmonizes the harsh properties of other herbs.
With Shi Gao and Xing Ren, for cough due to Lung Heat.
Rz. Zingiberis Recens Sheng Jiang 3-6g Releases the Exterior, disperses Cold, warms the Lungs, stops cough, adjusts Ying and Wei and reduces the toxicity of other herbs.
With Da Zao, for External Wind-Cold.
With Gui Zhi, strongly induces sweating for treatment of External Wind-Cold with chills, fever, body aches and anhidrosis.
With Ma Huang, strongly induces sweating for treatment of External Wind-Cold with chills, fever, body aches and anhidrosis.
Fr. Jujube Da Zao 3-12g Moderates and harmonizes the harsh properties of other herbs.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
  • Administer gradually and stop when sweating has begun.
  • Contraindicated for those with Shao Yin syndrome.
  • Contraindicated for those with Yang Deficiency.
  • Contraindicated for those with Windstroke patterns with External Deficiency.
  • Contraindicated for those with sweating associated with an increase in irritability, restlessness and Heat.
  • Contraindicated for those with Yin or Blood deficiency.
  • Contraindicated for those with Wind-Cold Attacking the Exterior with severe accumulation of fluids in the Interior.
  • Contraindicated for those with Exterior Deficiency (Wei Qi Deficiency).
HERB/DRUG INTERACTIONS
  • Concurrent use of this formula reduced the adverse effects of interferon in hepatitis C patients.
  • This is one of the strongest diaphoretic formulas.
